Medical Disclaimer
Please read this before you act on anything you find on this site. It matters more here than the usual boilerplate, because the subject is your health.
I am not a doctor or a dietitian
I am an IT professional who lost 13 kg by changing how I eat, and who reads a lot about nutrition. I hold no medical, nutritional or clinical qualification. Nothing on this site is written by, or reviewed by, a registered medical practitioner.
What you are reading is a personal account: what I tried, what worked for me, what did not, and what I understood from the research I read along the way.
This is not medical advice
The content here is for general information and education only. It is not a diagnosis, not a treatment plan, and not a substitute for professional medical advice.
Always seek the advice of a qualified doctor or registered dietitian before starting a diet, changing your eating, beginning an exercise programme, or altering anything about how you manage an existing condition. Never disregard professional medical advice or delay seeking it because of something you read here.
If you think you may have a medical emergency, contact your doctor or emergency services immediately.
Please talk to a doctor first if you
- are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding
- have diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease or high blood pressure
- have a thyroid condition or any hormonal disorder
- have a history of disordered eating
- take prescription medication of any kind
- are under 18 or over 65
The Health Check tool
The Health Check tool applies standard published formulas — BMI, Mifflin-St Jeor for BMR, and an activity multiplier for TDEE — to the numbers you type in. They are population-level estimates, nothing more.
They cannot see your body composition, your medical history, your medication or your bloodwork. A number from that tool is not a diagnosis and must not be used as one. BMI in particular is a crude measure that misreads muscular people and varies in how it applies across populations.
Individual results vary
What worked for me may not work for you. Bodies, circumstances, starting points and medical histories differ enormously. No outcome described on this site is a promise, a guarantee, or a typical result.
Accuracy and liability
I write these articles carefully and correct them when I find them wrong, but I make no warranty that the content is complete, current or accurate. Nutrition research moves, and I am reading it as an interested amateur, not as a professional.
You act on this information at your own risk. To the fullest extent permitted by law, I accept no liability for any loss, injury or damage arising from the use of this site.
